ADENIKE
“Adenike! NIKE!!! Open this door now!" I have to say, I admire his tenacity. Knowing well he is not superman neither is he ironman and yet he keeps tugging at the door. I kept a smug smile on my face as he rants through the car window.
After embarrassing me at his party in front of every black, African set of eyes, he has the audacity to tell me I am emotional. Look who is emotional now. Another smile. You might wonder why he is so agitated this particular night. I don’t have the time to tell you my story. What I can you is that it is not looking well for him.
“Adenike, I am sorry, okay? Please, open the door. Open it!" He screamed, slapping his fist on the window. I gave him a second look, waiting for someone or something. And HE did not fail. A low, growling sound pierced the air above the thunderstorm. He looked behind him in fear.
“Baby, don’t do this. You will be arrested for murder. Please, I am sorry. I am so sorry.” He breaks down in guilt. He is almost sorry for his actions. Maybe… The grass rustled around us. He is here. The clouds finally releases his burden and the rain pours. Close — a few steps more and at the last minute, I open the back door.
He swipes in hurriedly and jams the door shut. A man -sized lion growls and scratches against the glass and he yelps back in fear. I ignited the engine and drove off onto the main path. My eyes fixed on him as he sighs in relief.
Like I said, I don’t have the time to narrate every detail…today. But one thing is sure, he will never mess with me again.
